THE EXPEDITION FIELD GUIDE

There is no surface — only ice.

This is a small, freely explorable stretch of the ring plane, not a whole-system simulation. The five observation points are different views of the same cruise.

Follow the amber guide dots and distance arrow. Drift to a stop and press E or Discover to add it to your journal. Quick travel does not automatically record a discovery.

Moving around

You are a probe cruising the ring plane — there is no ground and no falling. The probe cruises forward on its own; W A S D drift sideways, Space rises, C sinks below the sheet. Drag to look. H hides notes; P opens photo mode; Esc closes it.

Disable camera drift for a steadier view.

What you are seeing

Science meets imagination

Saturn's rings are countless ice particles orbiting in a sheet tens of metres thick yet wider than the distance to our Moon. Cassini flew these gaps for thirteen years. The band layout, propeller swirl, and moonlet are artistic reconstructions, not survey data.

The cruise is far gentler than real ring-plane flight. Press G to feel the ring's faint tidal tug ease under Earth's gravity. Listen for grains ticking off the hull in the dense bands.

Click the small Sun or the giant itself in the sky to learn about it — you can then visit it in the Solar System view.

Cassini is a real NASA 3D model. The Saturn globe uses a real planet texture; the ring sheet, ice field, and starfield are generated locally.

This is an imagined site, not a surveyed ring section or an identified ring particle.
